    With the growing popularity of social media, educators have been adopting social media platforms, such as TikTok, for learning purposes. Whilst the effectiveness of TikTok to increase learner engagement has been demonstrated, there was little evidence indicating the effectiveness of TikTok on actual learner performance through formal graded assessments. This study is one of the first attempts to investigate the effects of TikTok as a learning tool on learner performance. The findings from a controlled experiment indicate that TikTok had a beneficial impact on the learner\u27s performance as well as self-perceived engagement in an introductory statistics course

    Are you in or not? A study into student intention to use immersive metaverse for learning

    Learning and teaching have been transformed by technologies in the last few decades. The rise of immersive technologies, such as the metaverse, has started gaining educators’. This phenomenon brings the need for a thorough understanding of how the metaverse could be adopted effectively for learning purposes. This study applied the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Diffusion of Innovation (DoI) to investigate the variables affecting student intention of using immersive metaverse for learning purposes. An online survey was conducted to collect student responses from a US university. A sample of 81 responses was analysed using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). The results indicate that compatibility and perceived risk influence perceived ease of use and usefulness. Perceived usefulness influences attitudes which consequently influence the intention to use. However, personal innovativeness was not found to influence perceived ease of use and usefulness. The perceived ease of use was not found to impact attitudes

    This case involves actual data from a student managed café that serves as a learning laboratory for a college of business. The student team that manages the café has never had access to precise data from a point of sale system until this semester. However, once they downloaded the raw data from the cash register they were unable to make sense of the data. This was in part due to the data entry errors in recording transactions as well as operational issues such as multiple managers entering new items into the register when there is already an existing code for the item in the Point of Sale (POS) database. To clean up the data and develop actionable spreadsheet based results, the managers decide to call in a team of information systems consultants to help them clean the dataset while not losing important data. To address the operating concerns of the managers, the consultants analyze the sales data for a number of questions whose answers can be used to improve how the café operates. By using Excel to analyze the data, consultants will be able to address the managerial decisions faced by the café team

    Mobile technologies, in particular, smartphones are reshaping individual and organisational behaviour at different levels and pace. This research focuses on the multi-cultural use and acceptance of proximity mobile payment (m-payment) which is more prevalent in some countries than other countries. Previous analysis of m-payment adoption extended the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to include external factors of use and acceptance identified through Organisational Semiotics (OS). This paper presents the development of constructs and measurements based on the identified requirements for m-payment adoption. It also presents the exploratory study results to validate the salient factors. This study furthers m-payment research by addressing the technical and social aspects via TAM and OS, as well as identifying empirical factors to increase m-payment adoption in multi-cultural context

    The increasing popularity of mobile technologies is reshaping human activities including financial transactions. This research focuses on the use and acceptance of NFC-enabled proximity mobile payment (m-payment). This research builds on previous research highlighting the various factors influencing the use and acceptance of m-payment through the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Diffusion of Innovation of (DoI). The results indicate a statistically significant relationship between compatibility, personal innovativeness, and behavioural intention to use m-payment. The findings of this study confirm the influence of external factors, i.e., compatibility and personal innovativeness, determines the end-users’ perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use of m-payment which subsequently determines their attitude towards using m-payment and the intention to use m-payment

One of the key challenges of mobile payment is how to understand and manage user expectations and technology acceptance. Therefore, to better understand mobile payment use and acceptance, we need to analyse the factors and barriers that influence technology use. The investigation uses Technology Acceptance Model in conjunction with Organisational Semiotics, a socio-technical method of design, to overcome possible limitations ad-dressed in research.
